Description
This mask comes from the Bwa or Bobo ethnic group of Burkina Faso and isused in celebrations and ceremonies.
Its circle shape and repeated geometry are very attractive.
Many people believe to be a representation of the sun, although it actually is an owl.
Bwa ethnic group are related to Dogon people and have suffered from an attack and subjugation by Bamana, Fulani ethnic groups and colonial France.
They believe the world was created by a god called Difini who sent his son Haga as the peacemaker between people and spirits. The worship to Haga is an important element of cultural cohesion and the religious leadership is owned by the oldest masculine member of the clan who occupied the land on which the village was built.
