Description
Leopards are iconic pieces of traditional and primitive African art from Africa. They are handcrafted in metal alloy using the lost wax technique with the same aesthetic as the pieces found in the mythical city of Igbo-Ukwu in the 19th century.
In Benin, the leopard is a symbol of royal power.
Powerful, of illustrious bearing, with a soft feature… the same adjectives that could define the space in which they are exhibited. Moreover, this reduced size is much more versatile.
Although it is made of metal, there is no need to rub it with metal cleaner, just dust it from time to time, as that patina is its most striking feature.
Like the vast majority of African primitive art, it fits perfectly into a variety of styles, even the most minimalist, but especially into contemporary classics (you’ve probably seen many examples in decorating magazines, as they are common in the best homes).
The most famous works of Yoruba and Igbo art come from Ife.
Each of the pieces in our leopard collection is hand carved and then cast in metal alloy.
