It is an essential element in the faith of the Christian Orthodox Ethiopian (which is also incorrectly called “Coptic”). Made with metal alloys and set on a detachable base of teka wood.
It is richly engraved, which gives it a tremendously spectacular appearance. Perfect to exhibit in any place at home, to which it will provide beauty and serenity. Any decoration style admits the Habesha cross as tasteful icon.
Originating in the monastic city of Lalibela in the North of Ethiopia, where beautiful churches carved in the rock are found and where those devoted to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church travel in pilgrimage. The typology of these crosses varies, but they are basically classified as the Saint Jorge cross (with rounded shape), the Saint Michael cross (with rectangular squared shape and symmetric carvings), the Saint Mary cross (very sinuous and baroque) and the Saint Mekerinos cross (less artful and at the same time more characteristic of the Habesha culture).
