Leopards are iconic pieces of traditional and primitive African art from Africa. They are handcrafted in metal alloy using the lost wax technique with the same aesthetics as the pieces found in the 19th century in the mythical city of Igbo-Ukwu.
Powerful, of illustrious bearing, with a soft feature… the same adjectives that could define the space in which they are exhibited. Moreover, this reduced size is much more versatile.
Although it is made of metal, there is no need to rub it with metal cleaner, just dust it from time to time, as that patina is its most striking feature.
Like the vast majority of African primitive art, it fits perfectly in a variety of styles of decoration, even in the most minimalist ones, but especially in contemporary classics (I’m sure you have seen many examples in decoration magazines, as they are common in the best houses).
A curiosity: in Ife culture, a tail downwards represents a female leopard and a tail upwards represents a male leopard.
