Mursi tribe comes from Ethiopia and Surma tribe comes from Sudan; these two tribes belong to the same ethnic group of Nilotic origin. Women insert clay plates in their lips and ears, which at the same time increase gradually in size and indicate social status of women. Although, its origin is speculated to deform women in order to avoid them to be captured as slaves, in reality this plate is simply used as their own aesthetic code.
