Authentic Kifwebe Mask

Description

The discovery of African art in the early twentieth century influenced the genesis of Cubism and modern art in general. These masks, from the Songye region in Congo, inspired Picasso his painting ‘the young ladies of Avignon’ in 1907.

The African masks evoke exoticism and exuberance. These, so geometric and angular, are worn by leaders who exercise a true religious and political power.
